Time is the most valuable coin in your life. You and you alone will determine how that coin will be spent. be careful that you do not let other people spend it for you.
-Carl Sandburg
Time is one of the greatest gifts God has given to man. Our
success in life, as we well know depends on how well we spend our time. But what is time management?
Time, according to the English dictionary, is a period
considered as a resource under your control and sufficient to accomplish
something.
Management is the act of taking charge of something.
According to Dr (Mrs) Chikwendu, J.N, Time management is the
act of arranging, organizing, scheduling and budgeting one’s time for
generating more effective work and productivity.
Time management is a very important ingredient for the
success of all our endeavors. Students, Scholars, Businessmen and women alike;
need this to add more value to their lives. Successful people make their time
count! Now let us consider the effects of improper time management.
1)
To
the student: failure or a rapid or gradual decline in his grades.
2)
To
the Businessman: loss in value and
inadequate customer satisfaction.
3)
You
lose the trust people had for you.
4)
You
lose your self-worth.
The following tips can avoid all
these;
1)
Plan
yourself.
2)
Set
goals you want to achieve.
3)
Know
your priorities
4)
Write
down a list of things to do and allocate specific time to each task.
5)
Be
flexible. If you fail to accomplish a particular task do not get discouraged,
move on.
6)
Discipline
yourself
7)
Avoid
procrastination. This is the act of saving present tasks to be done for a later
time.
8)
Learn
to say no. Be careful to recognize when’ trying to help friends’ will
negatively affect you.
9)
Learn
to divide labor. You must not do everything yourself.
10) Pray to God for wisdom and grace.
All these and more, when put to
proper practice, will set you above your equals and make the sky your starting
point to greatness . as Tony Morgan says, “You get to decide where your time
goes. You can either spend it putting out fires. You decide. And if you don’t
decide, others will decide for you.”
